Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong gets the sack

The prime minister has decided to fire Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong for his serious violations while on duty.

The Government leader has also stripped former Deputy Minister of Health Cao Minh Quang of his title for the same reason, the local media reported.

Earlier, the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat expelled Cuong from the Party and stripped Quang of all his Party posts.

According to the Secretariat, Cuong and Quang flouted the working regulations and policies of the Party Civil Affairs Committee and the regulations on what Party members are banned from doing.

He showed a lack of responsibility, slack leadership and poor supervision, letting many officials and Party members face discipline and criminal charges, and causing serious consequences, losses and wastefulness for the State.

These violations have affected the Party’s and the State’s directions on protecting public health, sparked public concerns and damaged the prestige of Party organizations, the healthcare sector and themselves.

On November 11 last year, the Investigative Police Agency under the Ministry of Public Security proposed filing charges against Cuong for his alleged dereliction of duty in Vietnam Pharma JSC’s (VN Pharma) fake cancer drug import and trade, causing serious consequences.

On December 10, 2021, he was detained after being placed under house arrest for a month.

Cuong was head of the Vietnam Drug Administration from 2007 before holding the post of Deputy Minister of Health from 2016.

Quang was the predecessor of Cuong at the Vietnam Drug Administration and was also found to have been involved in VN Pharma’s fake cancer drug import and trade.
